WASTE / DEPOSIT exhibition opening
WASTE / DEPOSIT The exhibition opened on June 6, 2026 and presented new works by 9 visual artists who have been on residency at Velferden the last 3 years.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE OPENING DAY:
TIME: Opening June 6th at 11:00 - 15:30
PLACE: Velferden
The exhibition opened on Saturday 6 June at 11:00 with an opening speech on the steps by the mayor of Sokndal Municipality, Bjørn-Inge Mydland. The day was filled with tours, performances and workshops. There was food and drink for sale in Velferden's cafe.
At the end of the day, there was a mini concert/performance by We Who Burn Bonfires, a musical sole proprietorship run by Fredrik Sele. It is a desert and wasteland inspired death songs in lyrical and vocal drive, with heavy baggage from non-commercial forces and with a large element of reproduction-free songs.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
The artists in the exhibition were: Anna Carin Hedberg, Ebba Moi, Hanna Sjöstrand, Linda Lamignan, Lisa Torell, Pierre Matte, Simon Daniel Tegnander Wenzel, Siri Austeen, Tove Kommedal
The artists have worked closely with the landscape of Sokndal, and based on personal encounters with the large-scale natural interventions from mining. Since we started the program in 2023, they have had the opportunity to meet researchers, local residents and representatives from the mining industry who have helped to give them a rich and varied understanding of the situation here in the village. With lots of impressions and nuanced perspectives at the core, mixed with their own references and strong artistic practice, they have created works that constitute a complex exhibition on the theme WASTE / DEPOSIT .
The exhibition consisted of artistic expressions such as sound art, installation, painting, video, performance, sculpture and workshops. All of it was shown indoors and outdoors at Sandbekk, and with a separate section in Jøssingfjord Science Museum.
