Kiarash Dadgar

Kiarash Dadgar (b. 1994) an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker, writer and interdisciplinary artist, currently based in Toronto.

He holds a master's degree in dramatic literature from Soore Art University in Tehran and is completing his MFA in film at York University.

His award-winning short film The Steak has been screened at over 300 international festivals and has won more than 110 awards globally.

His work explores themes such as memory, displacement, aging, and social injustice through minimalist visual storytelling and hybrid cinematic expressions.

Kiarash was with us on Velferden in December/January 2026 where he focused on visual research and writing for upcoming film projects, in collaboration with his creative partner Sara Oveissi. This is what Kiarash writes about his stay:

During our stay at Velferden I focused on early visual research and writing for upcoming film projects, while also documenting the surrounding landscape through photography and video.

The isolation and strong natural environment created space for reflection and the slow development of ideas. The stay gave me time to observe, think and experiment without pressure, and both the atmosphere and the landscape have left a lasting mark on my creative process .”
